Using a Nick

Generally accepted and often required is the use of a nick, short for nickname, unlimited variants are possible from just plainly using your own name to complex like §K????G??© or completely unreadable. Well the general rule is choose something that fits you, that you won?t regret after a week, that is unique. Don?t make it too long or people will shorten it for you, irc only allows max 9 characters for instance and most important STICK with your NICK.

Anonymous posting is considered un-cool on most boards and you reduce the chances of being helped

Posting: Language & Style

Posting can be done in various ways, main-thing is that its understandable.

English is the main internet language, try to master it as good as you can.
if you want to speak in another language do so at a board where that language is common.

TYPING YOU TEXT IN CAPS is considered yelling and you are sure to get negative reactions
UsInG tHiS or maybe-this-way is only funny the first time you see it.
Use abbreviations that are generally accepted, like:

NE1 = Anyone

(in) = inside is text

(nt) = no text

Conduct on a Message Board

If you have nothing to say don?t say anything, if you can help don?t be shy to do so.
Reactions on a posted ftp: a compliment/thank you is always appreciated, but not needed each time a warning that files are missing is good, if possible help to complete.
Your comment on speed is ridiculous (cause its very individual) and the maker of an ftp has no means to change that, if speed drops realize you are 1 of the people causing that. Endless discussions about deleters is wasted space, instead help to re-up or offer alternatives. Deleting is all part of the deal.

Flaming (a word fight) is considered bad behavior and gets you nothing, be honest and courteous.

Don?t use html unless it absolutely essential for your post and close your tags

Repeating a previous message to answer is only needed if it enhances your answer or reaction funny repeating ?autographs? at the bottom of your post take space and get boring soon.

Do not try to impose sexual, religious or political convictions you have upon others,
it has nothing to do with warez and only puts you in a vulnerable position

Do not nag or beg, don?t expect to be helped instantly, no one owes you anything

Never post someone?s personal data, like email or ICQ number unless you are authorized by the owner

Conduct on an FTP

Golden rule: An ftp is no message board and you are a guest. The messier an ftp is the more chances a sysop will discover it. Don?t tamper with files or dirs, you wouldn?t like that to happen on your hard disk.

Feel free to remove commercial addys on a pub that were not there when originally posted some people in the scene are in for the wrong motives and use our pubbies to make money.

If you up on a posted pub, try to make a dir with a standard text like the original release so for instance not ?AOE? but ?Age.of.Empires-PDM?
Don?t up unpacked warez with hundreds of files and many subdirs, chances it gets incomplete are 99%
Always ask the maker of that ftp if its all right to add stuff, it might be full.
Filling it to the brim is the number 1 death cause of an ftp, so watch what you are doing.

Name tagging (like: AOE--Upped by CoOlgUy) makes an ftp very messy and since you also got those files for free not needed. Better post on message board what you upped and where people can find it.

Give and Ye Shall Get

This rule needs little explanation but is often forgotten. Daily thousands of people do the utmost to bring you the toys you need or want, we wouldn?t be human if that doesn?t call for a return favor so help whenever and wherever you can, with the knowledge and stuff you have. Don?t make excuses why you can?t but on the other hand don?t make promises you can?t keep.
